Mumbai Sightseeing's

Chowpatty BeachApart from Juhu in the suburbs, Chowpatty is Mumbai's most famous beach. During the day, it is the hangout of the happily unemployed who snooze under the shade of its stunted trees. But in the evening the atmosphere is more like a carnival: kids screaming on Ferris wheels or taking pony rides, wayside astrologers making a quick buck, monkey shows, and even the odd self -styled gymnast who will demonstrate amazing yogic postures for a small fee. At one end is a row of bhelpuri shops hawking Mumbai's most popular snack: crisp puffed rice and semolina doused in pungent chutneys, all scooped up with a flat, fried puri. You might even catch a film shoot or a street play. In short, for most tourists Chowpatty is where the action is.

Crowford Market Crawford Market was named after the city’s municipal commissioner Arthur Crawford. Built in Norman Gothic style, it provides an elegant covered shopping experience dominating the skyline with its clock tower and steeple, with cavernous spaces inside, where one can buy fruits, vegetables and meat under a single roof. It is now rechristened as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market. Cowasji Jehangir donated the building, completed in 1869, to the city. Lockwood Kipling designed the friezes on the outside walls and the stone fountains inside. It was the main wholesale market for fruits in Bombay until March 1996, when the wholesale traders were relocated to New Bombay.

Prince of wales MuseumThe Prince of Wales Museum was built to commemorate King George V's first visit to Indian in 1905 , while he was still the Prince of Wales. Designed by George Wettet in grand Inso-Saracenic style, it stands in an ornamental garden and boasts a galleried central hall topped by a huge dome, said to have been inspired by the Gokgumbaz in Bijapur. It was opened to the public in 1923. In the ground floor gallery are impressive local sculptures from Elephanta Island, Parel, Thane and Jogeshwari.

Gatway Of IndiaThe Grand and Magnificent Landmark Of Mumba.Mumbai's principal landmark, the Gateway of India is a huge archway on the water's edge at Apollo Bunder. It is the starting point for most tourists who won’t to explore the city. This famous monument was built to commemorate the visit of the first ever British Monarch, King George V and Queen Mary in 1911.The Gateway was built by the British and designed by the architectGeorge Wittet. The first stone was laid by the then Governor of Bombay on March 31st, 1913. The Gate was formally opened in 1 924. It is a 26m high structure, complete with four turrets and intricate latticework carved into the yellow basalt stone. Ironically, when the British Raj ended in 1947, this colonial symbol also became a sort of epitaph: the last of the British ships that set sail for England left from the Gateway.

Nehure PlaneteriumThe Nehru Planetarium commissioned on 3rd March, 1977 has grown into a Centre for scientific study of astronomy and for meeting of scientists and scholars for discussions and lectures, arranged periodically on various stellar and Astronomical events. The programmes are aimed at inspiring students. These include Science quiz contests, Astro-painting, Science elocution, Astro-poetry and Astro-quiz competitions. Special arrangements are made to watch, study and photograph Solar & Lunar eclipses, and many such other events. Telescopes are installed outside the Planetarium to enable eager visitors to watch these phenomena. The Planetarium is running the 29th sky theatre programme from October 1st 2003, namely "Wonders of the Universe".It has a Mini Planetarium also, which is taken out to remote rural areas to project its shows for people and children to make them aware of the astronomical progress. These shows are highly popular and in great demand.

Flora Fountan :
Flora FountanCursetjee Fardoonjee Parekh donated this landmark structure Flora Fountain. Built in 1864, it was made of imported Poland stone and is located close to the church gate of the old (now vanished) British fort. Flora is the Roman Goddess of Flowers, her pretty alabaster face continually assaulted by grime and pollution. It stands at a busy five-point intersection in the heart of the commercial Fort area. The Flora Fountain was erected by the Agri-Horticultural society of Western India. It was originally meant to be named after Sir Bartle Frere, then governor of Bombay. However, the name was changed before the fountain was unveiled. It stood in the center of the town as it then was, but now this area is the heart of the business district of the town. This is the very heart of Mumbai, circumscribed by stately colonial buildings standing like proud old sentinels of a bygone era. Next to her are a pair of torch bearing stone patriots that rise from the Martyrs Memorial nearby. Flora Fountain is now called Hutatma Chowk or Martyr's Square to honour those who died in the tumultuous birth of Maharashtra State. All around the square sit Mumbai's infamous vendors selling just about everything under the blazing tropical sun - from cheap nylon saris to herbal remedies. Tooting horns and traffic complete the chaotic picture, but through it all Flora manages to retain her serene composure.

Nehru CenterLocated in Worli the Nehru Science Museum with sound light gallery has an attractive children’s section. It is the only place, which recreates the image of sky as seen from anywhere on earth at any time. It also has a collection of warplanes, which served the Indian air force. Nehru planetarium was commissioned in 1977 and designed by one of India's finest architects I.M.Kadri. Nehru Centre, a trust headed by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra State, runs it. An astronomical exhibition, comprising of 40 exhibits (transparencies and working model) explain the cosmos. In the auditorium, a breathtaking 'Sky Show' captures the very essence of the Milky Way or Akashganga. Two hundred projectors are simultaneously trained onto a hemispherical ceiling made of aluminum. The effect is realistic and it is not surprising that the planetarium has attracted more than 3 million visitors A centre - to promote the teachings and ideals of late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. A complex to house scientific and educational activities, primarily for children and students, consisting of Planetarium - Auditorium for 1000 persons, experimental theatre, multi-storied structure to house art galleries, library, research centres and other activities of Nehru Centre.

Juhu BeachJuhu, one of the largest beaches in the country, is located about 18-km north from the center of the pulsating city of Bombay. It is caressed by the rolling waves of the Arabian Sea and frequented by a sea of humanity. This busy and bustling beach of Bombay houses some of the posh localities where one can find the bungalows of the famous film personalities. The southern end of the Juhu beach is regarded as a favourite haunt of Bombay's movers and shakers. Luxury hotels and elegant apartments dot the stretch. Swimming in this stretch is not a good idea. But, if you plan to travel to Bombay, the Juhu beach not a place to be missed to feel the pulse of the city. Apart from the crowd that throngs in hordes, especially during weekends, the beach is booming with choc-a-bloc Bhelpuri and Kulfi stalls. From horse and donkey rides to watching dancing monkeys, cricket matches and acrobats, Juhu presents every other type of Indian beach entertainment. Towards the north of Juhu is the Versova beach, which is home to Bombay 's largest Koli fishing community.
